Kauten Dead of Heart AttackBody in Sitting Posture Found Near His Garage This Morning - Seemed Well YesterdayNorton and vicinity were shocked this morning by the announcement that J. Arnold Kauten, well known business man and a resident of Norton and Graham counties all his life, had been found dead early this morning near his garage building on North Second street east of the Peerless Mill. Death was due to heart disease, from which he had suffered for some time. The body of Mr. Kauten was discovered by Oscar McClelland, night police officer. Inquiry today revealed that Mr. Kauten had been in the country yesterday on business and had been downtown until about midnight, apparently in normal health. It is believed that shortly afterward he started to his quarters in the garage building, where he had slept since last summer because of frequent burglaries of the garage. He is presumed to have felt dizzy as a result of his heart condition and to have set down for a rest on the concrete platform in front of the old Barney Hinsdell produce building just south of the garage building. It was there that he died, his body in sitting position just as it was found by Mr. McClelland this morning. It was thought he had been dead for four or five hours, at least.Dr. Walter Stephenson, county coroner, was notified by Officer McClelland and following an inspection and an autopsy Dr. Stephenson said this morning that death was the result of a heart attack. No funeral arrangements had been made this afternoon but it was not thought the services will be earlier than Thursday, with burial probably at Lenora or Edmond. The body is at the Scott Mortuary in the meantime.Mr. Kauten was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kauten and was born about 40 years ago on a farm in Graham County 11 miles southwest of Lenora. He grew to manhood there moving then to Edmond, where he was engaged in the blacksmithing and the hardware business. About 18 years ago he was married at Edmond to Miss Kate Jones, and the family moved to Norton about 12 years ago. Since locating here, Mr. Kauten has been engaged in the garage and implement business.Mr. Kauten was a Mason and a member of the United Commercial Travelers council here. He was identified with the Norton County Vigilantes organization and was one of the best marksmen in the group.Surviving with the widow are two children, Marie, 16, and Willis, 12, and a sister and two brothers, Miss Mertie Kauten, H. R. Kauten and W. B. Kauten, all of Norton.[Source:Norton Daily Telegram(Norton, Kansas), 2 May 1933.]Kauten Rites TodayServices For Norton Man Were Postponed YesterdayFuneral services wereheld at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the Church of Christ for J.
